New plumbing vent covers

We just recently purchased a 1967 Overlander and noticed while I was polishing the roof area that I had plastic plumbing roof vents and they were cracked and problably leaking.

I purchased from Inland RV new plumbing vent covers in aluminum, I also got a rubber gasket that is slighly larger than the covers footprint and also some screen. It did not come with instructions, does anyone know how this project is supposed to be completed? Should I use sealant? Rivits? Just the rubber gasket? I need help.

Welcome.. do not use 'silicone' products.

Remove old, clean up as best you can with scraper and mineral spirits. You can follow up with some acetone or denatured alcohol to let the new sealant have good 'bite'.

Sikaflex or similar product will do the job..Dicor is another product which may fit the bill.

Use sheet metal screws.. preferably stainless to minimize corrosion. Use sealant on both sides of gasket .. not too much...clean with solvent mentioned above.

Screen is used to block 'critters' from entering the area...

Gutter sealant will work too. HD and Lowes carries this stuff.
