How to replace Fridge air deflector?
Got up on the roof to do the annual inspection and sealing and found my refrigerator air deflector had come off. The air deflector is that aluminum fin that goes between the air conditioner and the refrigerator vent. It keeps the hot air from the air conditioner away from the fridge vent.
All that is left are the holes where it used to be attached. The holes are really long slots and appear to be in good shape so I suspect the rivets somehow were not properly shaped and allowed the deflector to pull them through the holes during heavy cross wind.
I can make a new fin from aluminum but how should I attach it? Pop rivets seem like they will have the same problem. Should I use some kind of backing plate? How will I get it underneath the roof? I was thinking about rivets and 3M 5200 (TM) adhesive.
Has anyone else solved this problem?
