Hail Damage to Roof Panels

I am a new owner of a 1998 Airstream Bambe. The end roof panels have mult. small dents. Can I remove them or is replacement ness. , Also the prev. owner slopped some pretty ugly goop all over the roof to ?? seal leaks. Any ideas.
