Eternabond Tape - Roof Maintenance
I have a 2015 27FB FC that has been used approximately 100 days total thus far. The rest of the time it was in storage with a roof over it. We are in Texas = hot & haven’t had her out of Texas yet = not retired yet. Bringing her home this weekend to was & wax & to do a thorough roof inspection. No leaks that I am aware of.
My questions are:
1. How often do people replace the roof caulking?
2. Eternabond Tape - is this something people really like or not & why?
3. When using Eternabond tape do I need to remove the old caulk or can I simply put it over the old caulk?
4. How long should the Eternabond tape last?
Thanks,
Glenn

As with anything, surface prep is key. I degrease the surface with acetone then the Eternabond goes down with a weighted roller.
As far as longevity, my first application went down in 2012 on my classic, and its still up there doing its thing. The mfgr reccomends sealing the exposed edges with a sealant. I used lexel clear and its great!
It is pressure sensitive stuff so rolling it down is important. Eternabond offers and adhesive enhancer, and a surface prep, both in aerosol form.
I like the stuff as it looks much better than caulking goop slathered about. I guess you can say its the lesser of two evils.
My only warning is to make sure you stick it where you want it, its a mother to remove and clean off!

Thanks Atomic - did you remove the old caulking 1st or put the Eternabond over top of old caulking?
Did you use their adhesive enhancer or their surface prep?
Level Clear - is that the on named “Through the ROOF”?
What width did you go with ?
Thanks,
Glenn

Thinking back I did clean up old caulk, but didnt go crazy.
I prepped with acetone, but no... did not use their accelerant.
I used the narrow and wide, depending on the situation.
Lexel comes in clear and white.

CLEAN CLEAN ClEAN
The surface must be...
I used 3m Extreme Sealing Tape 7yrs ago on the Skylight install still playable and water tight.
Just resealed both FF's and the tv antenna, expect the same results.

Robert,
So you removed all of the old caulking before using this tape?
Thanks,

Sure did...with a plastic scraper, wood stir stick, heat gun set on low, mineral spirits Brakleen and plenty of paper towels and rags...oh, don't forget the green scotch pads. 👍

Here’s a vote for the Eternabond Alumibond Tape. Others have mentioned the importance of prep and the fact that it sticks like crazy. The only thing I can add is: It will not stick to silicone, so if anyone has used that in the past. You need to clean off every bit that you can.
