Eliminate Roof Vents??
Hi Guys,
I think IMO 1 air conditioner, 3 roof vents, 2 exhaust fans, and 1 fridge vent is quite excessive. I want to eliminate the 3 roof vent/fans/light fixtures as they are common source of leaks etc.. I will just patch the 13" by 13" holes on top and patch and install light fixtures on the inside or maybe a skylight. I live up in alberta where heat and humidity aren't too bad and the AC unit is good enough.
Your thoughts?

I would get rid of the air conditioner first because we use the roof vents constantly, never the air conditioner. We put MaxAir vents over them so they can be open in the rain or going down the road. They're open near 100% of the time including when the Airstream is not in use.

Definetly would be a deal breaker if I was looking to buy. But it is your trailer to do with as you please.

I'm with Doug. I'd be upgrading the vents per his recommendation. It might be enough to eliminate the use of your air conditioner altogether.

Does Maxair work in the factory vent size?

I live in Ontario, we use the vents all the time, even more so than the AC. I find them to be an absolute necessity.

We have Maxair vents and love them. We had to square up the openings a little, if I recall correctly, but otherwise they install easily. It's easy to cool the trailer with the vents open and exhausting out, and windows open in the trailer to draw air in. Very little air conditioning used for us. Our vents are open in storage at home also for ventilation in the summer in the trailer. We've never had rain come in, ever with these vents.
Oh, and we did eliminate our center vent. Never used that one.

I would be in for a little more than squaring up. My Rough Opening is only 12" x 12" and there is an aluminum frame in between. Has anyone else cut into these to expand the rough opening?

It is done all the time, remove the rivets from the stock unit, remove the frame, cut bigger hole, install your choice of fan
