Attaching a new Roof Vent
Howdy all!
I am finally removing the old A/C unit from my Argosy, and putting a pretty standard roof vent in its place. The question I have is should I use the recommended #8 3/4" hex-head stainless screws to put it down (prior to sealing), or should I use 1/8" rivets instead? Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd go with the SS screws...if you ever need to remove the vent, that would be lots easier than drilling out bunches of rivets...

Ya might want to use pan head stainless screws since they don't stick up as much and might be easier to seal. They might also be harder to remove with caulk in the screw head. If you are sealing with something like eternabond tape the pan heads might work better. I would also get a vent with a metal frame if you don't want the flange to crack and cause leaks.

Great advice Perry - thanks! Going to tape for sure, and use Dicor Lap Sealant to seal it all up. Also, I did get a vent with a metal frame for exactly the reason you stated.

How much Dicor to use....
Forgot to ask - how much Dicor does it typically take to fully seal one of these vents? 2 tubes?

Sorry for my slow response! Hengs Universal vent - going inexpensive for now, as I know we will likely replace it in a year or two!

Place a 2x2 between the inner and outer skin to add a more stable to fasten to. Otherwise the AC will only be anchored to the outer skin and will vibrate. The same is true with the vents.
