Hi from Ga. . .I'm in the wet, dirty and smelly group (I've been worse places),but I don't put any thing in worth stealing. Seems like mine might be pretty easy to get in to. And no point in pretty, IMO., regards, Craig

When additional storage space opens up it is quickly filled. Always appreciate new places to put 'stuff'.

There are different types of bumper storage—one kind is a drawer. I have seen one where side brackets came apart and the drawer had to be removed until it could be fixed. That means one should check it from time to time to make it is secure and doesn't fall out. There's probably a weight limit for that type (or any type for that manner).

I have a lid on mine, no lock. We leave the exterior power cord there since it came that way plus an adapter for 50 amps.

The mat which came with the trailer is a mess, and a bat idea. Holds water under it and starts to rus the galvanized steel. I removed mine, cleaned and sanded well and sprayed Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating. Not as thick as spray bedliner, but so far holding up well.

We got into ours, emptied it, and swept and washed it, then painted everything oil based metallic silver to protect against rust.

Ah, er, well, I inadvertently used ours to store an extraneous little turd once.

Sealing up the rear bumper storage area on a 70s Airstream is NOT a good idea. You want to drill a 2-4 small holes in the pan to allow water to drain in the event that water does get in there (and it usually does).

I've used mine to store the occasional wasps' nest too.

Actually, I like the spray-in bedliner idea.

I also want to see photos of Wildertexas' with wallpaper and curtains when finished.

Does anyone use their bumper storage for anything except hoses

I thought about putting small propane bottles in there, but then thought it might not be a good idea if you got hit from behind. Do you think it is OK?

Got rid of the mat which seems to only hold water. Sanded down. Applied truck bed liner. Now water drains out and it's not rusted.

In our bumper compartment we carry the 30-amp shore cord, manual jack crank handle (which I hope I never need), awning "wand", surge protector, plastic pads for the stabilizers and few rags for wiping the shore cord down...and yes we padlock both sides when traveling ...not that this would keep anyone determined out... Been thinking about cleaning it up nice and spraying it with rubber bed liner... (PS: We carry our sewer hose in a vented tube under the trailer...it holds two 10' hoses....the best place for it, and easy access from the street side.)

Hi, maybe it's time for the original poster to tell us what's on her mind; Like, maybe she wants to line the inside of it in red velvet and keep her jewelry in it. Or maybe some fancy chrome tools? Or even make a planter box out of it and put some Pansies in it?

OOOOH, I LIKE the planter box idea! You could place a couple of flamingos in the flowers.

I store my sewer stuff in the bumper drawer; no locks on the sides of the drawer--just clips. I need access if I loose all my keys--I keep my spare door key in a small jar in a sewer hose.

This was a problem one time. I used the sewer hose and forgot that the jar was in it. There was a big stoppage......you do not wish to hear the rest

By the way, the top of my bumper, above the drawer has changed in color to gray. Guess it is the AZ sun.

Try Armour All on the center section. It's about the only place I use the stuff anymore. Makes it look really good for several weeks.
303 is good, but it makes it streaky for some reason. I still use 303 for it's UV protection when in storage, but Armour all for the clean up prior to travel.
