Removing and Installing Waste Tank Covers

Start from the bottom and work up! I'm replacing my bellypan and insulation underneath my Airstrream. Every fastener I loosen is rusted, and sometimes breaks. Simple jobs become more difficult because of the rusted fasteners. Anyway...

Has anyone ever removed the large, fabricated waste water tank cover? It is bolted in place and has black caulking all the way around. I was thinking it would be handy to have an waste water slide valve access cover so I could work on these valves if they ever get stuck or leak without having to remove the whole tank cover. I assume the cover is insulated to keep the tanks warm in cold weather Airstreaming. The rear furnace has a direct vent to the "basement" to keep these tanks warm.

This tank cover looks too big to take off and get back in place. And I have all those rusted bolts to worry about!

Yeah, My 68 had a styro bottom. but cutting into it for an access panel would have to take a lot of care without taking it off. You wouldn't want to slip and cut the tank. But if you are carful an angel grinder could get the job done.. IF YOU ARE VERY VERY Carful.. maybe set up a stop so you only go so deep.....
