Overlay A New Lower Side Skin

Working on the battery box today to repair door hinges and rear banana wrap dents.
As usual things got out of hand.
The skin fore of the battery box is corroding through in spots due to a bad seal at the wheel well liner. Pan was full of dirt.
The skin runs from the belt line to the frame and aft to the form the belly skin at the rear banana wrap. The wrap runs a few inches up behind the outer skin and is riveted in a few places to the "C" channel. It can’t be removed without drilling out some of the upper rivets on the upper skin.
Can anyone see any downside to trimming back the rotten sheet and slipping in an overlay panel cut to the same contours? This seems to me to be the most logical repair option unless someone who’s done this before has a better idea.

That's what I would do, just make sure your seams overlap so the wind from the front when towing doesn't catch them.

Why not just drill that bad piece out and replace it with a new piece?
