Corrugated poly sheeting instead of AL
Hey Guys:
My plan is to replace my belly pan with corrugted poly sheeting. It's light, easy to work with, relatively cheap, and impervious to water, and lot easier to install than the AL that I removed - and is in bad shape.
I'm keeping the banana wraps, for sure and banged out the dents so I think they will clean up well.
It does not stand up to heavy gravel like you run into in Alaska but otherwise it has been fine on box trailers. You need about 1.5" flat washers to hold it up.
I would run with 1/16 lexan sheet or 1/8 black uhmw sheet. It costs a little more but is way more durable. The lexan would be the lightest and closest to aluminum thickness.
Hey Guitarman, how did this work out for you? I saw these sheets at Home D the other day. 4x8 sheets that they advertised for sign boards. I thought to myself, that might actually not be a bad idea! Plus, you eliminate the aluminum to steel corrosion aspect that leads to rivets popping loose down the road.
