The "dog dish" is a cover over the "p" trap on the shower drain. The trap on ours has a removable plug threaded into the bottom. I replaced the plastic dish, which was broken in several places, with a removable stainless steel bowl.

The angle, or lack thereof, of the axle trailing arm in the last photo indicates that you need axle replacement.

The original was a heavy plastic square with the cover cast in the center. I cut the broken bowl from the center of the plastic square leaving a round hole the replacement bowl would just press into from the top, then riveted the assembly in place. The metal bowl just fits the hole but the rolled flange around the top of the bowl keeps it from going down through the hole.

I think the large flang rivets from VTS are 1/4 to 1/2" grip range and worked very well for me
