Advice for bellypan

Hello all!

My husband and I have just purchased our first Airstream! A 1989 Excella.

Since we have never owned one of these beauties before, we are looking for a little advice. Underneath the front of the Airstream, right behind the lip, there is some exposed wood (see photograph). The previous owner hadn't realized there was exposed wood - I am guessing its the wood of the subfloor.

If possible, I would love advice - what should I do? My initial inclination is to cover the area with a piece of aluminum, but I would rather ask advice before doing anything.

Thank you all in advance!

I’d seal it (it looks to be OSB which would be correct for the year) and slap some aluminum over it. You can get aluminum stock at Lowe’s Depot. Before you secure it, run a bead of trempro (vintage trailer supply) around the backside of your scab piece. You will only need a couple (short) screws to secure it.

It looks like someone already added a strip of aluminum and caulk. I would continue that same procedure on all of the exposed wood.
Be extremely carful that the screws are short so that they do not penetrate the flooring above.
