Where to find AS step parts

one of the screws that hold the folding steps together vibrated out going down the road. AS dealer says they don't carry such parts. where can i get one of these screw and cap nut sets?

Possibly a hardware store.

Check with Inland RV. They probably have it.

I have talked with the tech people at Jackson Centre and successfully ordered parts direct, but my understanding is that generally they want you to go through a local authorized dealer to order parts for you - I'm surprised your dealer would not do that.

I believe that the screws for the steps are specialty items and I think there are several sizes used in one set of steps. I'm sure someplace I have seen diagrams with part numbers for all the different screws.

I doubt you'd have much luck at a hardware store in this instance.

You might tray calling JC and possibly they would email you an assembly diagram of the steps so you can be sure you are ordering the correct screws.

Good luck - Brian.

Out of Doors Mart has the parts as well as the parts breakdown. Try their site for parts. They are an Airstream dealer as well. Good luck. Chris

I had the same problem and my AS dealer ordered the part and fixed it but it cost me an arm and a leg. Maybe because they put in a new door lock also.

Responding on my phone so don't know your location. If in TX, I call the factory for the part #, and then Camper Clinic II in Austin / Buda.

I lost one while on the road last year. Replaced it with a screw from a hardware store. Originals are hex socket heads. My replacement was square drive (Canadian eh!)

Airstream parts

I bought a 1972 31' Sovereign several years ago. Although it had two steps, the bottom step was not attached. I found the right screws at Inland RV. Because they are specialty screws, they cost more than one might think.

This is definitely a hardware store solution. Bring an example of what you want to get with you (hopefully you still have a matching screw in your step mechanism that you can borrow.)

AS parts

I agree with CWF. The screws on my 1972 Sovereign had tapered heads, shims, etc. that I don't think I would find in a hardware store. And when I say they are more expensive than one might think, I mean about $30 each if my memory serves me correctly!

I just went through this exercise a few weeks ago. It was $80 for the 3 screws I needed. The PO tried to use a standard bolt to fix the issue and actually damaged the steps, so I had to do some work to make them fit together correctly. Out of Doors Mart has the parts, and they ship out quickly.

If it's one that runs through the trailer frame, I found mine . In the body metal below...the banana wrap? The step broke while camping in Charleston SC. Thought it was good luck but now that I heard how valuable they are, I will be sure to check tightness now and then. Had to use a small magnet stick to get it out with some metal trimming but put it back and all is good. You might look for it.
