Step outriggers for a 4 inch frame

I've been searching for step outriggers for my 1961 Ambassador. My trailer has a 4 inch frame, and all of the replacements I have been able to find have been for a 5 inch frame. Does anybody have a source for these 4 inch step outriggers? I have a guy who can fabricate them, and if they are NLA, I could have him fabricate a set. With so many people doing restorations on these vintage rigs, I have to believe there is a demand for them.

The 4 inch outriggers have not been available from Airstream for over 35 years.

You can use the 5 inch, and cut them down.

The new style out riggers, however, are for a different style footstep.

Andy, Would the 5 inch work on my 67 Safari? one of my outriggers for the step os bent and the step comes down crooked. It appears that the step was left extended at some time in the past and was struck against something that bent it. Thanks, Ed

Ed.

It might be easier and cheaper for you to consider an after market footstep. They come with the brackets.

Measure the distance between the present out riggers, and look for a footstep that is close to that dimension.

The only out riggers available are for the aluminum step, and I don't think it would work very well, especially with a bent steel footstep.

It would, in my opinion, be a challenge and a half to try new out riggers.

There is not much to a older 4" step out-riggers, It's simply a 4" by 1" "C" channel that has been "boxed" in, with a grove cut out at a angle from the front to the back! It needed to be welded in place to the ladder frame, so just find a shop that does welding and chances are they can also cut the 90* radius curve "box" it in with the cut out grove. Most shops in my area charge $40.00 a hour for welding time so my guess you should be less than $100.00 R&R per out-rigger. Good luck...

I have found a source to make me some 4 inch outriggers. This is the same guy who built my stainless steel black tank, and he does amazing work. I'll be having some made up in the next few weeks, and I'll let everybody know how they work.

If there is any interest, I could talk to the fabricator and maybe have a few sets made up. Looks like we'd be looking at about $20 each, $40 per set, plus shipping.

Let me know
