folding step trouble...

Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum and sorta new to Airstreams...I've got a pretty nice '77 31 ft. rear bath twin Sovereign that I bought about 4 years ago, and now I'm finally starting to actually use it! I've developed a problem with the folding step...it seems that one side won't "lock" in the open position anymore. It looks like the "tang" cut into the metal beam of the trailer has perhaps worn and won't engage the step mechanism anymore. Has anyone had this problem and come up with a fix for it?
Thanks for any help.....

You can replace the footstep outriggers or, add some weld to the worn area, and carefully file a new slot. Make sure however, that the step has not been tweaked out of alignment by being hit or bent.

I have the same problem on my '76 22' Globe Trotter. What are 'outriggers'??? I don't really want to try welding this.

The welding was easy....a buddy came over with his portable 110v wire welder and added just a bit of weld to both sides...took about 5 minutes...a tiny bit of filing with a rat tail file and it's as good as new. I also lubricated the slide area this time with some wheel bearing grease. Works perfect...

JG,
My step is in good shape but I decided to keep it tucked under the trailer and use an aluminum step from Camping World which has a wider area. It has worked fine so far and is easy to pick up and throw in the trailer when packing up.
