Electric motor for steps ?????
Why do the $145.00 electric motors for the steps look the same as the $40.00 motors for a chev pickup etc, electric window ?????

looks slightly different in the mounting but i would think with a little effort could be made to work.That being said if you have to pay todays labor rate for a mechanic to do the rework you would not come out ahead

I replaced mine with the window motor and only the gears didn't mesh right but could transfer from the old one. Why did they put a motor from a car on steps, because that was available and cheap. Was it the right motor, NO, step motors are open to the weather and placed just right for wheels to throw up everything onto the motor. When I installed new one I made sure all the electric was protected from the elements. Silicone works wonders as a sealant.

I looked at a non-reman, assumed to be new, unit on that Autozone link, and it was cheaper than the reman! Also probably Chinese. The difference between it and the RV part? Simple. Markup! Cut the molex connector off the old motor to use with the new one, and I bet it'll work fine. Both have 9-tooth output gears, so hopefully it would bolt right up.

As I said above gears look same but didn't quite fit so using old worked, but forgot to mention steps quit 6 months later, turns out the safety mechanism is plastic rollers, 3 that turn into crumble cheese or with the strain of motor shutoff switch pressing on deform them. Solution exchange the rollers with 3/8 nuts, but a warning the steps are still dangerous make sure you have all the electric off when working around them, possible to lose a human part.
