Dumb question need a fast solution :)

I just replaced the Outrigger for step attachment on my 1973 Argosy 20', and I didn't take a photo before I took it to parts
I highlighted on the photo : (what I downloaded from a website)
, So I can't push that lever all the way down because how I installed it the lever "bar" is above that bolt and now is hitting it. And honestly I don't know what am I missing , but how is that lever opens the steps? Any of you have a photo of it?

On my 1999 the latch holds the step up. I can't figure out the exact problem here. Can u elaborate what you did?

I will try to take a photo tomorrow, but basically I cut it out a rusted outrigger , and welded a new one in. Put a bolt back what was holding the steps, and I can't push the lever all the way down anymore, and when I push the steps back nothing holds it up. So I guess something is missing. I don't remember how it was working before I took it to parts..

Placement of the latch bolt is important. If you have the old part you cut out you could compare the bolt hole location.

Also, there is a diagram somewhere but it lacks measurements. Have you Che kes the Out-October-doors Mart for an exploded diagram?

Dumb question need a fast solution :)

Here is what it looks like on our '74 Argosy 26'.

Are you using a countersunk bolt? Note the flat countersunk bolt.

In the pic in post 7 the lever pushes down. Which releases the rear arm from the latch at the rear of the slot.. The square shaft at the rear connects to the release latch on the opposite side of the step(s).
Are you sure the rear arm is going back far enough to where the latch catches it? There is a spring which holds the lever up. Is it in place?

I can't get my lower step down since I put it up for some reason last year. Maybe this will help me operate it.

I think I found a problem. I will post a photo soon. I will have to cut out a piece... It is blocking the lever.. Can't push it down enough to hold the step.

Here is the photo. So The outrigger has an extra "plate" marked with yellow, what I didn't have on the original piece. So because of that , you can see the lever can't go further down because hitting the end of that plate. My spring just hanging now, please ignore that , I didn't have a time to drill a hole and attach it yet.
So as you see on the photo I highlighted with a red circle the point where my lever hitting that plate. And I am guessing the way it suppose to work , the lever goes a bit lower and will block the "pin" to slide back down to open the steps right?
I don't know how easy access to cut a piece off of that "plate" hope is not difficult

don't cut the plate...

I think that 'plate' is there to improve stability of the whole side of the plate. I would 'trim' off the end so that the lever can move freely.. do not trim the lever.. just the end of the plate.

Now, when I look real close at the 'lever'... if you look above the point where the lever hits the 'plate', you can see that the lever actually 'tapers' on the top... if that lever were inverted, you might not need to 'trim' the plate. except that the end turns out... is there another lever on the other side? maybe you have them reversed?

if you decide to 'trim', I would use an angle grinder...

The lever has a long ,almost a U shapped form, can't be put any other different way. Only one way to install it. I will trim that end , and will see if the lever can go lower a bit to block that pin and hold the steps in a locked position.
