Carpeting 1967 step top?

Has anyone tried to glue a leetle rectangle of carpet to their folding step so it looks a bit swankier?
If so, will it fold up with the carpet on there, or would I need to peel it off each time we move so the step will still fold back in?
I saw some spendy step covers on camping world, but I was just going to go find a hardy sample for cheap or free.
Ideas?

Thanks!

Got as far as procuring the $1 blue carpet sample and cutting it to fit. Adhesive is TBD. Looks pretty swank!

You could always try this (available in other colors):Prest-O-Fit 2-0041 Wraparound RV Step Rug, Brown
