Question whats this for?

I'm thinking about getting my argosy ready to paint next spring.
I know what every thing else is on the outside is except this.
Looks like it was installed by a po.
It's two pieces of ss folded and pop riveted to eather side of
the furnace vent. Whats its purpose ?

Without seeing a photo, my guess would be that it was some kind of shield to keep wind from getting to the pilot light and blowing it out.
