The factory color is DuPont Centari 44146-A. This is a metalic grey, despite appearances to the contrary.

There is perfect match available from Dupli-Color, number T183. My recollection is that it is a GM metalic grey. Dupli-Color can be had at most auto parts stores.

I should think you need a primer compatible with aluminum as an undercoat.

I have also heard rumor that sears toolbox gray is the same color. I would test it first, but it is said to be the lowest cost of the three choices.

Misled

Dont be misled,
I recently used the Duplicolor paint and it definitely is not a match!

It is close but obviously not even a match. I can show you the difference if you like.

If you really are looking for a match, you will have to go to Airstream and buy there 22 dollar a can OEM paint.

If you use the search feature and search grey paint you will find the exact match listed on this forum. And even more information to the effect.

I did some touch up work on my '85 with the Dupli-Color and cannot tell which areas are factory paint, and which are mine. Except mine has fewer paint chips. However, there is no particular reason to believe that it is, in fact, an exact match for the factory mix.

Also, one must factor in possible fading over the years when trying to match paints, so even the factory paint may not give you a match to your paint.

..........any suggestions on the primer

As recently as a couple of years ago you could purchase a Zinc Chromate primer in spray cans from Aviation Supply Houses.

Made specificaly for Aluminum. Fairly expensive, but worked great. Also highly toxic.
