I did that with mine once. WD-40 will take the wax off and make the rock guards shine. I wouldn't use it on the clearcoat though. The rock guards are stainless steel with some fine milling grooves...perfect for the wax to adhere to and not come off.

Gary,

I use "Zep" brand stainless steel cleaner & polish. This is a citrus based product that works well removing bugs, tar, etc and leaves a nice shine. Can usually be found at Home Depot or available online.

I use Barkeepers Friend liquid cleaner that I get at the local grocery store to clean the rock guards. It is made for stainless steel and seems to do a fine job. Do not use it on any aluminum.
