Trim Mold

Need help! I have lost the trim mold on one of the rock guards. The trim piece on the front corner, from the door around under the rock guard is now loose. How are these fastened to the body of the AS? Also any suggestions on finding a replacement strip for a 2008 20' Safari. I have attached a photo of the loose trim.

Thanks
Steve

You can get the molding from an Airstream authorized repair center... I'm not sure if there's another source or not. It will come with a blue protective film that you peel off. It is held into the track with a thin double-sided tape.

How do I know this? Part of ours was replaced when we had some body work done to fix damage from a blowout. The new moulding would not stay attached — partly because they used round-headed screws to attach the new track instead of flat head screws...so there wasn't good contact around the screws every 10" or so....so rather than replace all those screws and seal them, I used a thicker, extra strength outdoor double-sided tape to re-seat it. I think it was 3M brand, and I got it at Ace Hardware. The tape was exactly the width of the molding...and now that molding is NOT going anywhere.

One of mine turned to gas between there and here. Never noticed when it disappeared. Inland sells it by the foot. As I recall the bottom rub rail is 1" wide, the one that runs around the middle is 3/4". Clean the track really well with alcohol before peeling the backing off the tape, once on, peel the protective film off the front. They also carry it in black as well as chrome so be sure you order what you want. Most auto parts stores carry this, but none could provide it in those sizes when I checked. Find something else to order at the same time to make the shipping worthwhile.

I just installed some new rub rail on my Safari. Mine was 1" chrome. Andy at Inland also recommends that you apply black 3M weather strip adhesive to the back of the new chrome strip to make double sure it stays in place. It's relatively cheap and easy to install.
