Trident application

There are many on the forums, myself included, that consider stuff like that to be a major way for a dealer to make a much bigger profit. It is far cheaper to put that money in the bank, along with the cost of a so-called extended warranty, and do your own maintenance, including washing and waxing the Airstream once or twice a year.

It's the same game played by new car dealers, with the same result. They make lots of money, and the fine print keeps them from spending any of it on your issues.

The only vehicles I have ever bought an extended warrant on was our Toyota Prius (two of them) because just the battery pack, if it fails early, is over $8,000. The warranty was only $500 for 10 years and 100,000 miles. Cheap enough.

For an Airstream, not worth it. That's what comp and collision insurance with an agreed value is for.

The clearcoat on a modern airstream is basically permanent, and an expensive dealer wax job is simply not worth the money, IMHO

Rip off like under coating and extended warranties. Give your new beauty a good washing using quality car soap and the occasional hand waxing. Clean road grime and bugs from the front as needed. 5 to 10 years from now everyone will think you just bought a new Airstream.

Hugh profit center for dealers. Don't do it. Save the money for things that matter like ice cream.

Properly applied, Trident has value. It is not a wax. Wax boils off in as little as 30 days, depending on the product and number of coats applied. Trident is a nano-tech sealant with an extended life.

Note - it was my understanding that the clearcoat is applied by the material manufacturer. It also is a nano-tech finish with very limited porosity. However, when the sheet is cut for a window or rivet hole, the edge that is created by the cut has no coating and needs to be addressed in some way.

Research the product, the dealer's capability to apply the product, and the alternative surface protection process you are considering. Make the best choice for you.

Good luck. Pat
