Tail Light Corrosion
I know this has been discussed, but I would like to get the latest advice/treatment that's out there (plus I don't feel like searching the archives forever). I'd like to replace this tail light bezel housing, or remove and strip it to improve the appearance. I don't mind paying, up to a certain point, to get it done right.
On another note, I have a lot of filiform corrosion to treat on the rivet line and near the marker lights. I have heard that that the aluminum on the marker lights doesn't play nice with the shell aluminum, so wondering if those should be replaced when I do the repair (which I still don't know how I'm going to do but have a good idea).
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

I have tried the spot fix method and not happy with the results. I am going remove my lights and do it properly.

How do you plan to do it? I was thinking about trying to buy new lights if it looks like it's going to take 20 hours of work.

Remove the light housing, strip and clear coat. My time is cheap these days so required time is not a factor.

Another option is to remove the light housing and have the entire housing painted and clear coated. There is a match for the aluminum color, AS is using it on the exterior covers for hot water heater etc. Also, Vinnies Airstream in CA has a post on his facebook page where he has done the same thing for customers. In pictures it looks nice, and should look good for a long time.

Do you the specifics for the paint match? I saw the repair on Vinnie's page, but there was no mention of the color used. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a sneaky feeling that the labor cost of the paint job would exceed the cost of new light housings.

The problem is that a new fixture would do the same thing. We are going to powder coat paint it, hoping to get this result:

No need to clearcoat, at least in AZ
I removed my taillights and removed the tarnished clear coat. Once I got them bright again, I just left them uncoated. No problem thus far. See my previous post on this topic.

That looks fantastic! Unfortunately for me, the corrosion was very deep into the metal. We're done, I will be putting them back on soon (pics to follow). I am interested in what you used to seal. Apparently it's putty tape across the top and your favorite RV sealant on the sides.

I have a new 2014 Flying Cloud less then a year old and I've already got some major corrosion in a number of different locations. I wash it and have waxed it i know four times in the year but it does not seem to help. I was told I should Raise hell with Airstream about this.

This is the best match I can find for repair touch up. As you can see by the spray of the plastic shower door, it's close. I've used it to spray where I've sanded off filiform on the skin. Buy at Home Depot.
