Spot finishing exterior panels

Hi all, I am a newbie to the forum. We recently purchased a 2004 Safari 25 AB. Overall in excellent condition, at least it appears to be to this novice. On a couple of the end cap pieces on the front, there are some rub spots (looks like the previous owner used some scotchbrite to take some bugs off). I was reading some of the posts on similar subjects. It leads me to believe I can touch these spots up with either plasti-cote or lacquer. Is this a good approach? Can spots be oversprayed without affecting adjacent areas on the same panel? Can these rub marks be fixed using some 3000 abrasive compound (like that used to rub out clear coat scratches on cars)?
Thanks for any and all advice.
Hank

Spot finishing

Good questions. I'm interested in the replys, but don't see any. Our 2005 has some similar issues. Hopefully someone will enlighten.

Barring any responses, I decided to go ahead and try rubbing out the very light scratches using a 3M 3000 polishing compound. To my surprise, using a very soft cloth and very light pressure, the scratches did blend in to the surrounding area quite nicely.
