Speaking of Stripes and Decals

I am going to replace some stripes on my rig.

I hope that this thread can become a repository for all decals on Airstreams..

For starters, Does anyone know what color or shade of blue is used for a 1979 decal that goes around the trailer. The wide one.
ther is also a silver or grey pinstripe that compliments the big blue stripe.

I am looking for a color close to the rub rails I assume.

I also seen a MH that was in dire need of new woodgrain striping. I wasa wondering what the "official" airstream color or manufacturer number is.

I would like to find a reference that would identify all shades or colors of blue used on Airstreams. (or other colors for that matter)

Our first A/S didn't have a stripe. We thought it would look good to have one so found a sticky tape that had 2 or 3 different colors of blue. We purchased it from a local auto parts store. I stuck it around the trailer completely including the front and was pleased at how well it looked. I may try and find a picture of it and post it later.

With a little searching I found this thread...
I hope it's what you want contributed,,,and I hope I get the feed-back I'm looking for.

I just got my 'rub-rail' VinylClad from Inland RV...all 100 feet of it.
I only needed 66 feet, so I have 34 feet left over.

IF ANYONE WANTS TO BUY THE 34 FEET OF THE 1-1/2 inch Rub-Rail Vinylclad, let me know.

NOW...HERE'S THE REASON FOR MY POST: (and I've attached a photo of this 'mid-section-decal & 2 Vinylclad trims).

Mid-section of the Excella ("Bear"), is a 6-1/2 inch wide decal, which Airstream no longer provides...(RATS)...and above and below that area is a raised trough...with 1/4" inch VinylClad inbetween IN the 'trough' (mine is in perfect condition). The 6-1/2 inch decal in between these 2 trims, is peeling off is an area where it wasn't installed correctly. I'm WONDERING-----

CAN I SAFELY REMOVE THE OLD DECAL...AND JUST EXPOSE THE ALUMINUM UNDER THE DECAL..? & what would I apply over it to protect it (similar to the treatment from the factory="whatzitcalled"?
1. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE APPLIED BY THE OWNER TO AN ISOLATED AREA OF THE ALUMINUM LIKE THAT?
2. DOES ANYONE HAVE A SUGGESTION ON HOW TO REMOVE THE OLD DECAL WITHOUT DAMAGING THE ALUMINUM UNDER IT? (Mine is peeling in spots)...but not all over, so I know I'm going to have to remove it with either PRESSURE of a tool, OR, some sort of chemical. ???????

Darn it...RATS!
I can't upload the photo I really need to show you all. It's apparently too big.
The photo above is a Bear "Look-A-Like"...and the decal on the "Belt-Line" on that one...is solid colour of blue.
Whereas Bear's is multi-stripe and 2 colours of blue, and also a yellow/gold.

I'll try again tomorrow, after I've tried to re-size the photo.

Hi.. My hubby and I did ours this past August.. no problem.. but it does shrink.. I know that sounds strange but the sun will make it shorten up.. just leave a little extra on the beltline..ours is a Tradewind. and be sure to put in the rivets so it doesn't come out. We also put a thin line of Parbon.. aluminum colored above both lines .. looks great .. the time is the parbon.. Annie

Anyone got a easy method for removing decals? (stripes)

I also received my new rubrail last night.

Waited three weeks to receive it and installed it in less than one hour. The whole unit!

I have new decals for the unit and I would like to work on the decals this weekend. My decals look exactly like the image above.

Short of Thermo Nuclear Devices, most everything has been covered here:

A spray solvent containing Methyl Chloride worked best for me, but it WILL mess with your clear coat.

I know you're thinking decals, but an option would be to paint it after decal removal. The PO of mine painted everything! It looks like original unless someone scrutinizes it closely.
