As long as you are using POR-15 silver paint and not POR-15 Stirling Silver topcoat as your base, you will have no bonding issues at all. Everything just needs to be clean (very clean) and then painted in two thin coats. When you topcoat, remember you cannot let the POR-15 dry entirely before topcoating. Follow the directions explicitly, but in general just topcoat when the POR-15 is still tacky. Tacky is defined as "dry to the touch but with a slight finger-drag remaining."

for my first coat of Por-15 i was planning on getting gray to provide some contrast for the second coat. However i have some other hardware that needs painting...door hinges etc. so maybe i'll get the silver for the first coat and use what is left for the hardware.
will silver be a good first coat? will the 2nd and top coats bond as well to it as they would to the gray coat?
