Pledge oil on aluminum?

My dealer said they used Pledge Revitalizing oil on the interior and exterior aluminum. Has any one else heard of this?

The owner' manual for our 2014 Sport recommends Pledge Multi-Surface spray to clean the interior aluminum panels.

Might make it shiny for a few days but there are certainly better choices for long term durability on the exterior.

A good quality auto polish on panels with CorrosionX treatment of raw panel edges, panel rivets, wheels, and exterior fittings would be an excellent choice.

FWIW, I used Pledge for years on my SOB, and now with the AS there's nothing more convenient for removing squashed bugs and tar when you hit the campground for the night. Removes the stuck on stuff and leaves a wax. Ditto for the front of your TV. I would agree it's probably not #1 for the long term, but it sure is convenient between semi annual waxings.

I've heard that Lemon Pledge attracts bees, so I use Orange Pledge.

In the WBCCI Blue Beret a couple of issues ago someone asked in the Airstream column what to use on the interior aluminum and Airstream recommended Pledge Orange.

Thanks, It seems that airstream has recommended this as a cleaner to remove fingerprints etc. Though when I emailed airstream the fellow who answered said he'd never heard of this use? Anyway they recommend Walbernize Super Seal and Glaze to treat the exterior. Jeff

Don, I think the Aerospace 303 is recommended mostly for rubber gaskets around the door and windows. You're using it on inside aluminum as well?

Years ago, when I took my ABATE motorcycle class, the older Harley guy that taught the class recommended using lemon pledge on everything on the bike (body, chrome, leather, plastic, rubber, etc.). I took his advice and used it until I sold my bike a few years ago. It worked great, did not attract ANY insects and was always the cheapest solution.

picked up my new airstream couple weeks ago. The guy at the dealer that has been detailing all the new airstreams for the last 12 years uses WD40 and window cleaner. I watched him do two trailers. He would spray WD40, then spray foaming window cleaner over it and buff it out with a microfiber cloth. (50/50) It works, What can I say. Last year I went to a seminar at AlumaFlamingo and Tim Maxwell from Airstream says he uses Orange Pledge on interior of his airstream, I bought Orange Pledge and that is what I use on my interior. Works Great.

Interesting thread
I will have to try the pledge idea? I agree it will not last as long or as a good wax, but it it works for ongoing washes that would be fine with me. I find its a real pain while I'm traveling to try and keep the unit clean. Between the road grim, bugs and tar it seems I'm always washing.

So is the recommendation to use pledge after a normal bucket wash to take the streaks and hard water spots?

Thanks
Doug

Lemon Pledge is recommrnded for interior walls of Airstreams, but no reason to think it wouldn't work as a detailer on exterior.

My Airstream is a mess, I live in cold NJ, so wash and wax not in the cards right now. Would the Orange Pledge work in the cold for me? If so I will go right out and get it, well as soon as I get Bambi back from RV guy. This Pledge sounds great to use between waxes.

ArticFox: I would caution against using it before you get the grit off since you will leave scratches. Most campgrounds prohibit washing your rig so I knock the grit off with a California Duster then spray the Pledge. If you can use a clear coat wash first so much the better, but the California duster gets you by.

And, oh, yes. It removes the hard water spots and tree sap as well.
