Unhappy Painted stripe on '76 is peeling

I have a blue stripe on the side of my trailer which is peeling off in places. When I recently power-washed it, the water pressure peeled off a few more flakes. Is this something I can/should repair or am I better off finding someone who can do the job? What is involved?

Welcome to the forums!
The Excella stripe is usually a decal, but may be painted on non-Excella models. Pressure washing is generally considered a no-no, because the high pressure water may force open the seams in the body, causing leaks.
If it's painted, you may be able to touch up the spots with a brush or spray can, but it won't exactly match what's there.

I have a 1976 Sovereign and the blue stripe on mine is a vinyl insert that fits into that channel on each side and then a larger insert at the belly. It's possible that a pervious owner got tired of putting in the vinyl and painted inside that channel. Post some pictures of yours so we can see what you're dealing with. I agree about not using the power washer. Also, you can order the vinyl insert from an Airstream dealer or Inland RV. It's not expensive and very, very easy to insert. You can see the channel on mine; however, I've removed the vinyl insert and am installing new as soon as a warm day comes along.

One option is to remove the decal and replace it with a wide blue reflective stripe through a company catering to law enforcement like Galls. I'm sure that would be expensive but you sure would be seen for miles.

You can also by it from a sign making shop. I inquired about some last year for our Overlander. They will cut it to whatever width you need.
On ours, John ended up just removing all the old and painting a new stripe with a small brush. It took him a while but turned out very nice.
