Old stripe removal

Hi all...I have an 85 sovereign that I am renovating. I read the trick on the forum about taking off the stripes using the wet towel/iron method...fwiw for those of you taking off stripes out there, it is waaaay easier to get a heat gun that painters use, hold it 4-5 inches from the stripe, then peel away...works like a champ.

But...if you look at the pic below, the blue stripes on the right came right off with the heat gun method. Around the word "Sovereign" is another matter, the plastic is cracked, and there seems to be a different kind of adhesive on there that is really nasty stuff.

Any ideas on how to get this stuff off? Any chemical strippers I could try that won't hurt the aluminum?

One whole side of my Excella was cracked like yours. I just used the heat gun and a lot more patience. Sal

I use this with a great deal of success with those new adhesives.

Automotive paint stores sell a spray used to remove trim. It should work for you.
