Old paint on top of my Airstream?????????

I have an old 59 Airstream. It has this paint that was put on the top of it. It's White and thick. I found an old rally photo and there where a bunch of Airstreams with the same paint on top? Any info you might have on what it is, why it's there, whats its use, was it a trend, etc would be great. Thanx so much!

Welcome to the forum! If you type "white roof" in the search box at the top of the screen you will be directed to 121 threads, which will keep you busy reading for a while. Basically, the white paint is to reflect the sun's rays to keep the trailer cooler.
