New Decal

We finally got a new decal on our '81 Excella II that we've been updating over the past several months. We're not purist so no need to bash us for not using that snazzy Airstream blue - we know that we've strayed from the path of purity and our soulds need saving...eventually

We're going with a black theme so it will match our truck. We think Paul, from Custom Designs in Longview, Texas, did an excellent job. I've posted a time-lapse of him installing a section near the front on the curbside here.

It's finally getting more fun seeing everything go back in since it's been gutted for so long.

Your GMC truck is a gorgeous TV. What a combo when pictured with your trailer! I know there are those that will disagree with me, but I think you went down the right path of putting some money and time into a pre-wide body year trailer. From all the criticism of cracking, leaking, corrosion on the newer ones it looks to be the route to go. Admitedly am prejudiced somewhat in my opinion as we have been very satisfied with our 88 A/S tt. Hope you post some pics of the interior when completed also. Pat

Hey guys,
I would get a rock guard for those windows. You'll be sick if a rock flys up and gets one of those wing windows.

Inlandrv and Out-of-Doors Mart stock them.

boo n sue,
I think the black is sharp looking and we went with the black theme as well. What about your awning(s)? We have the main awning which is only a few years old and is the navy blue and light blue and still in great shape. The other 4 awnings are the original horrible brown fabric, worn out and in need of replacing and I have thought of changing them out to black. Would be snazzy, I think.
Just wondering if you factored your awning into the mix and what you did.

Yeah - we've thought about it but will probably have to wait a little while before we can change it out. We only have the one awning that runs the length of the curbside. If and when we do change it (we have the original blue striped theme with lots pretty mold speckles) we'd like to go with black fabric. Thinking about adding more awnings on the end and also the street side so but that seems like a big expense. Maybe next year. Is it any trick to switch out the ZipDee fabric?

We're putting the walls back in today so here's a couple of pictures of how it looks while it's still open.

Thanks, btw, for all of the comments.

I think the black is beautiful! We considered maroon details to match our tow vehicle (& son is an Aggie). But have decided to stay with the blue for now.

I have been thinking of having the "original" blue two tone stripe painted on rather than a new decal. Has anyone done this? Pros and cons please.

Bill Cantrel,
I installed an awning with Sunbrella on a clients house that is Black with a thin gold stripe in it that I thought looks really sharp. Solid black may be a bit much.

That black stripe and theme looks great!!

heat

I think light colors bounce the light and provide cooler environments. I would guess that a solid black fabric would absorb the sun's heat and so that would not be fun to sit under. But maybe the sunbrella type fabrics don't work that way???? Something to research anyway.

Kelly, my vinyl blue stripe was removed and painted blue 20 years ago. I just had it repainted again as it was fading in some spots where the sun hits it steadily. I think painting is the way to go.
