Need to restripe!!! Yikes!

Looks like we finally have to "re-stripe" our '89 29'. There is a LOT of it, wide and narrow. Where is best place to buy it? How expensive is it? I pretty well think I know how to install it (hair dryer helps) but I have this sinking feeling that it is going to COST a bundle.
We have had this trailer a long time-everything inside is new, including Pergo type flooring. It has all the awnings, all the guards, ALL the good stuff. Ha!!
Thanks.

I got the orange vinyl inserts for my Argosy by ordering thru a local Airstream Certified repair shop. We don't have an Airstream dealer in the state of Oklahoma. I had previously gotten this same insert from a well known RV supply place and the cost was about three times as high as Airstream prices. I'm also now needing the blue and have contacted this same repair shop but at this time I don't know the cost of the blue. The orange was only .12 cents a foot. The large supply company had charged me over $100.00 for a 50 foot roll.

Anniedog,

I am doing my 84 34' right now and I order the rubrail and beltline trim from Inland RV. It runs $35.00 for a 50' roll. There is probably cheaper stuff out there if you want to spend the time looking but they had it here in 4 days after I called them. It is easy on mine. Just drill out the old rivets, pop in the new trim, and put in the new rivets to hold it in place. Took a couple of hours to do mine. Looks much better. Good luck and have fun.

Anniedog,

Are you replacing the beltline & rubrail (actual plastic strips that fit into a slot that goes around the trailer), or are you replacing the vinyal stripe (typically blue with small silver pinstriping accents)? I took it as the latter. If so, I replaced my decal with some that I purchased from ebay. Much cheaper than decals from Airstream (which I have heard is at least $250). It wasn't an exact match to what was originally on there, but it looked good.

I ordered my vinyl inserts from Griffith RV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (405)495-2590) for $12.00 for the 1/2" and $20.00 for the 1". They will ship them to you. Tom Griffith has been working on Airstreams for 45 years, and his father for 30 years before that. Great source.

Re-Striping plan

Okay folks, thanks for the help. I am only going to replace the blue vynl striping tape. Our "rub strip" moldings are fine, but their is a wide band, perhaps 7-8" that is all vynl tape, some 2-3" wide, then a thin strip, then another spaced a bit apart etc.etc.
I believe my wife and I can do this at our leisure as soon as we hit the Green Valley AZ area.

3M makes a stripe and decal remover that you spray on and then squeegee off. It works pretty good but leaves the glue residue. They also make an adhesive remover which does not work that well on the glue. Laquer thinner works on the glue but you have to watch that you don't damage painted surfaces or clearcoat. It is a good idea to mask off the areas around the tape that you are removing.

Anniedog, You may check with a local car dealership. They quite often have a guy that comes to them on a regular basis and pinstripes the cars on their lot. They could put you in contact with him. I had one duplicate a very elaborate stipe on an older motorhome that we repaired on our body shop.

talked with Karen in parts at Airstream yesterday. They still offer the decals so I called Dillions in Phoenix with the pt # and they said 1.28 a foot for the multicolor strip. You can call Jackson Center and tell them what size you need and Karen will give you the part # needed to order.

I am new to all this. I guess you can say I have the Aluminum Bug. I bought one about 6 months ago and now I own 6. Yes I now own 6 Airstreams. I am going to start restoring them. I am almost done with the first one. New Led light all the way around' strip and polish. It has been so much fun. I do have a great discovery. To restripe mine I went to Lowes and bought a 4 pack of electical tape. They have red, blue, white, and black. The blue is an exact match. Color and size for it. The smaller trim I put it on and then take a straight razor and cut it along the grove. It will make it half the size so you can get two for the price of one. Try it out. I have used this on my 72.
