Lower trim rail - how to replace chrome strip

On my 2013 Flying Cloud trailer, a couple short sections of the lower trim is bad. I got a section of replacement material, but I don't know anything about how to replace it. The new material has a peel & stick back.

Do I just rip off the old, or is there a trick or preferred method of getting it off? I assume I'll have to clean off adhesive residue from the original. Is there any thing special I should know about the cleanup/prep that is required?

I'm attaching a couple pictures. The sections I am replacing are on the entrance door, and on the body between the door and the wheel well.

Also, on the trim piece that wraps around the back of the trailer, there is a gap about 1/8 of an inch at the end of this trim material--the factory cut the piece too short. Is that a potential leak? Should I fill the gap with sealant? I have a picture of this also. upload is failing....maybe I can get the pictures posted later.

Thumbs up

The cleaning is the most important thing to insure the stick'n...I also used 3M Weatherstrip to seal all the holes and a narrow bead down the center over the screw heads, (you will find random mistakes under the moulding ). Brakleen, mineral spirits & green scrubby pads werk good.

Yes....seal the gap.

I also sealed the top edge on the sides, left the bottom open to drain.
Top & bottom on the rear bumper to seal the trunk.
I used Loctite PL
