Post Looking for Beltline

I'm looking for about 5 feet of the wide lower blue belt line, and about 8 inches of the upper blue trim. I was wondering if anyone had some extra laying around that they would be willing to sell me. I just can't bring myself to buy a 50 foot roll of each for the small amounts that I need. If anyone can help me please let me know. Thanks.

Bump.
Marvin and Annie, the Happycampers were so kind as to send me the smaller trim, but I'm still in need of the wider blue belt line. I need about 5 ft, and hate to have to buy a whole roll of the stuff. I'm not sure why the door and area around the batt box are the only areas on my Sovereign that the stuff is cracked. Every where else it looks great. I'll pay whatever for the stuff if you can help.
Thanks,
Lowell

They aren't as salvage yard - but are an AS dealer - they had some unusual beltline in stock when i needed it. Good luck.

Oasis RV is an Airstream dealer in Tucson that has become quite dependable in servicing folks from far and wide over phone only. Their inventory is excellent. How do I say this? Their pricing is very un-California-like and they seem willing to deal in small quantities. I found them very knowledgeable in understanding my needs over the phone and happy to ship! Telephone: 520-889-6361

Thanks for the tips. I do live in PA, so I don't want to pay California prices.
I just don't want to have to buy a whole roll for the small quanity that I need. Small quantity is good, thanks again.

Here is another dealer that is vintage friendly and sells in small lots and doesn't mind shipping. www.outofdoorsmart.com I buy regular items like weather stripping, hardware and odd AS parts from them. They have been a dealer since the early 60's. I usually deal with Ben in parts.

beltline

Lowell,
F.W.I.W.
Give Sutton Rv in Eugene Or. a call, as Janet replied.
I called and talked to Sean there, and he ordered me a supposidly no longer available beltline moulding, a couple months back.
He took the time to call Airstream to cross referance the moulding and called me back within 10 minutes.
He had it shipped right from Airstream to me, so no double shipping charges!
and said if it isn't the right one, ship it back and no cost whatsoever.
they have a broad knowlege of Airstream/parts and they do sell little short pieces of things.
I was very pleased with them!

Warning!

O.K. Maybe the title is a a little dramatic but we learned a big lesson that perhaps some don't know about. We installed new beltline and rubrail on Buttercup and low and behold - it shrank, a lot! about 6 inches so far on both sides. We are going to cheat for now and lust insert a piece to fill the gap.

I am not sure how to deal with this except to say that it might be of some benefit to leave a big pigtail hanging out for a few months before pop riveting the stuff in. All of our rivets pulled out from the shrinkage.

Shrinkage

The PO had new rubrail put in before selling me the trailer over 4 years ago. It pulled through the rivets in several places after tightenings up during winter the second year. I made sure it was rather cool and did not pull it tight when I put all new stuff in before I sold the trailer.

Am I following correctly? You have rivets through your blue belt line? My blue belt line slides into the rail section, no rivets. It doesn't move at all, is it supposed to be rivited in place? As far as I can tell mine is original and in good shape, except for the small section on the door and between the door and battery box.

THe insert moldings are held in place with a single rivet, at each end, that goes through the molding end cap.

If not, the insert will shrink away from the ends.

Andy clarified my post regarding the rivets. One rivet through an end cap which helps apply pressure to a wider area of the beltline and the same thing at the other end. Without these, the vinyl insert will shrink and elongate as the temp changes which may cause the vinyl to bunch up and slip out of the tracks.

Rivets or no - ours still pulled through, taking the rivets and clips with it. I have not seen anybody else say that they had that problem. We did install it when it was quite warm outside.

I think this is where the problem occurs. The vinyl is quite pliable and you have a tendency to pull it just a little to drill the hole and rivet the ends. I'd also say that the sun ages the vinyl over a period of time, drying it out and it shrinks. Man, what a mess. Heat expands it, cold shrinks it, sun ages it.

We have found that when you install the blue vinyl beltline, it helps to leave it a foot or so long, and let it acclimate then trim it in about a week and rivet it in place. This has worked for us so far. Also, watch stretching during installation, especially around the corners. We use a screening tool to work it into the channell which makes it much easier. We may have an extra 5 or so feet hanging around. We will check and let you know on Sunday. If we do , it's yours for the shipping!
