Letter/Emblem removal

Does anyone know how to remove the raised "Airstream" emblems/letters from the front and rear of an A/S trailer? I have a '72 Ambassador.
Also, once they are off, what is the best way to put them back on?
I am not sure if they are glued on.
Thanks for your help
Alex

The Airstream emblems on your trailer or made from cast aluminum and are put on with anchoring pins at the factory. My service manual doesn't say anything about how to get the letters OFF, but regarding reinstallation, states, "Where access to the rear of the cast lettering is not possible, break off the anchoring pin with great care and attach the letter back with blue No. 30 pop rivets. Be sure and seal the perimeter of each letter to prevent leaks."
Hope this helps.

P.S. Why are you having to take them off?

You very "carefully" shear off the blind studs with a sharp putty knife.

Again, carefully, so that you don't scratch the metal.

The letters are reinstalled with blue pop rivets.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
GStephens - I am taking them off because I am starting the polishing process. I want to make easy for polishing evenly.

Guess I fit into the above category all too often. Good luck with your project.

It is probably a decal or wrap. Contact a sign shop that does vehicle wraps for advice. The adhesive is likely to be even tougher than the 3M plastic it holds on.

Try “rapid remover” spray bottle available on Amazon. It can dissolve and soften the adhesive under the vinyl and let you peel it off. Try in an inconspicuous spot first.

I used it to get rid of the undesired old red numbers I got with the Airstream.

Sign shops use it a lot.

Before buying my own adjustable 'heat gun' I borrowed the DW's hair dryer, warmed the tape up carefully and removed it with a plastic scraper. Used googone and/or mineral spirits to remove the residue.

For anything secured with double sided fastening tape, 20lb test mono fishing line has been sufficient to 'saw' it off.
