120 or 150 sandpaper seems pretty harsh, I would think you would use 400 or 360. 120 is for smoothing plastic filler or cutting down primer.

I could see painting an Airstream but only if it was not feasible to polish it or leave it alone, for example if you did some repair work and used filler to get it smooth. Then you would have to paint.

If I did paint I think I would find a better color than silver. Paint to match the tow car, or some original color scheme.
The proof of performance, is in the pudding.

Using that heavier grit paper, gives the flexible primer far greater "bonding" strength to the metal.

Paint does not stay bonded to aluminum very well if the metal is simple scuffed.

Our paint can only be removed with stripper, as it will not flake or chip off.

Why??

Heavier grit sanding.

If someone wants the special silver metallic paint formula that we used, please ask and I will be glad to post it.

A double wet coat is when you over lap the spray pattern 50 percent.

The formula later when I am at the office.

Here is the formula for the special silver metallic paint that we used for many years.

This paint was applied over a double wet coat of "flexible epoxy based primer".

Let the primer age for about 24 hours.

SPECIAL SILVER EXTERIOR PAINT

All of these liquids are Dupont products.

32 oz 814 silver
16 oz 150
32 oz 175
64 oz 7175
1 oz 259

Immediately after applying 2 double wet coats of the silver, apply 2 to 3 double wets coats of Dupont 3500 S clear.
