Icon or Legend

I am considering painting "An American Icon" on the rear of my vintage '63 Tradewind.

I have noticed a few Airstreams with the phrase "An American Legend" used on a license plate frame, or painted on the rear.

It seems to me that Icon is associated closer to Airstream by the average American. If you google Airstream Icon and Airstream Legend, Airstream Icon produces more hits.

What's the consensus of the forum?

Help me think this through before I commit to hiring a sign painter.

Icon... for sure.

Legend implies a story of something that might or might not be true. It is like like a folk tale to me.
An Icon is an item worshiped by society or by a religious group.

I, also, think "Icon" is more appropriate.

I would say Icon also.
