I think he is refering to the paint in the Castings on the side of the trailer. I painted mine carefully with high gloss sign enamel. Sign enamel has higher pigment content but flows on smoothly and is self leveling. It is fairly quick drying and does not run. A steady hand and a good brush helps.

Hi!

What are you trying to restore? A photo would help. Some have taken to repainting by hand others have gone to sign shops have new ones cut in Royal Blue 3M vinyl.

Well... The first job this spring is repainting the nameplate. I plan on using an airbrush, enamels and latex masking agent.
As far as the larger Forum/WBCCI numbers I went with self stick vinyl. A set of Forum numbers and a strip of 1 inch high letters proclaiming airstreamforums.com for the back window only set me back 16 bucks.

Painting Letters

We just painted some of the lettering and name plates on our 1975 Sovereign...we used an enamel paint for metal surfaces.and lots of masking and taping...then used carb cleaner to wiped down the lettering.

I attached a before and after pic.

Gene, I used a slow drying black enamel to paint in the letters on the emblems. When I was done with the letters, I carefully wiped off the raised parts around the letters to get rid of errant blobs, it turned out really well, and set off the letters nicely.
