How often do you reglue rubber trim?
The strip of silver rubbrer trim about 30 inches above the ground...the side trim that goes all the way around my 07 Safari is starting to come loose.
I reglued one section of it up front with weatherstrip cement about a month ago and now about 6 feet of the back end of the trailer needs reglueing.
First: I used 3M weatherstrip cement to reglue the front section...about 4 ft of trim had come loose...is there another brand that works as well that is not black? 3M is what what I have on hand from having recently readhered the weather strip on the underside of my truck's flat topper. It's black and messy, however it DOES do the job well and sets up fast.
Next: Whatever's there from the AS factory is clear and almost not there at all. When prepping for the reglueing there's hardly a trace of adhesive on the backside of the trim or the channel that the trim slips into, which almost indicates to me that the trim was originally adhesive backed and they may have just removed the paper backing and stuck it on there.
Last: I'm thinking of pulling the entire trim strip off and readhering the whole length of it. Or would you suggest the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" strategy.
thanks

The 3 M black "super weatherstrip adhesive", is the best to use. Yes, it can be messy, but that's a learning curve. That black material does not give up, period.
It's the only material we will use, as well as suggest to those installing window and door gaskets, etc.
The factory material, speaks for itself.

I can predict that the trim is going to continue to come loose......ours did, and I actually lost a few pieces that were on the rock guards. The factory was using some really crappy double-sided adhesive tape for a period of time. After obtaining replacement trim, I used 3M double-sided adhesive tape (from an Auto Parts store) to reattach. You need to thoroughly clean both the trim piece and the channel with thinner. I then placed rivets at the beginning and end of each trim piece, and spaced about 2' apart on the long pieces. Haven't had a problem since.

I'm glad someone asked this question as I have a few areas on my moho that needs to be re-glued. So, if I understand this correctly the best thing to probably do is remove all the trim, clean it up, and then re-glue it from one end to the other using the 3M weatherstrip cement mentioned above.

Trim
I just ordered mine thru Out of mart.Got here in about 3 days.It has the 3M stick on it and the chrome look nice and shiny.Cost would be about a $100.00 (give or take)to replace the whole bottom trim for a 25 footer.

I used the 3m adhesive...didn't take but half an hour to prep and reglue...did the entire length that goes around the back of the Safari. That 3m adhesive is serious stuff.

Yes indeed.
The 3M 8001 yellow adhesive kids and jokes around, alot, when it comes to holdingt power.
The 3M 8008 black adhesive is some very serious stuff.
