Hi, Well it took about 3 qts to do my Caravel plus 1 qt. of silver for the bumper and tounge.

I'd say a gallon of black for the frame, wheels, wheel wells, and whatever else you want to do. Don't forget the topcoat for the exposed areas. You'll have a little bit left over probably.

No matter how much you get, get it in small cans (qts.). It's difficult to adequately reseal the can. I've only bought two quarts, but the second one had suffered some kind of internal leak into the lid seal groove, so the lid was basically welded to the can and I had to damage it to get it open--no resealing of that one!

Question: does the silver POR-15 discolor from UV exposure the way they warn the dark colors will? Thanks!

You can put a layer of Saran wrap over the can/under the lid before closing. It isolates the paint from the metal, and makes opening much easier.

There is a product by POR15 that is called Stirling Silver.
It will not discolor in Sunlight.

I used the silver (not Stirling) years ago on my steps and tongue and it did discolor/yellow some but it worked great and takes paint well. I seem to remember also that I could not get can open a week later without cutting.

Afraid the best I found was through POR-15 website with 4 quarts for an $8 premium over the gallon price. I chose 2 silver, one semi-gloss and one gloss black. Seems the gloss is more gel than semi-gloss, and aluminum has most filler (metallic aluminum) that may offer some insulation value..

The packaging was horrible - shredded newspaper w/ almost none on bottom of box, but 4 inches of crumpled newspaper on top! All cans arrived damaged but one was creased through bottom seam. I hate teaching people their jobs so I didn't throw it back at them...

POR 15 is a rust stabilizer for putting on rusty areas, like frames. They also make other products that cover the stabilizer.http://www.por15.com/. Check this website.

Wabbiteer,

I second your comment on poor packaging. I just received a two quart shipment both cans dented, one can leaking. I called them, explained the problem and suggested they need to do a better job of packing their product for shipment. I don't think of this as teaching them their job rather I think of it as perhaps helping the next guy out that might otherwise receive a poorly packaged and therefore damage shipment.

I've never used POR15, but could you purchase the gallon size for economy, then transfer to "disposable" plastic quart containers? I do this with house paints and wood finishes all the time.

I would not use disposable, I would get quart cans, I think HD will sell them.

That way they are air tight.

Air-tightness is not an issue, although there may be some other reason not to use plastic. If you purchase the plastic containers made for paint products, the lids seal nicely. Do it all the time.

It is a moisture cured paint, water vapor is the catalyst. Unless you have a deep tub filled w/ dry nitrogen gas and ensure no normal atmosphere intrudes the moist air will start the process of turning it into a solid.

A trick my grandfather used to due with shellacs that loved to absorb water was to do the saran wrap trick under the lid and on down onto the surface of the product to kill the airspace above it. Seemed to work for a long time.
