How are the 'AIRSTREAM' Letters Attached?

So, I have these letters on the front of my '69 Overlander:


They no longer have much paint, are oxidized, dirty, probably even fungal. I would like to remove them, but am not sure how they are affixed to the trailer. If riveted, I'll just pretty them up in place.

So how are they attached, if you happen to know?

The back of the letters have pins protruding rearwards through the shell and attached to the shell from the interior with speed nuts.

wasagachris, soudns like I can't remove these, or reattach them, without pulling the interior end cap. Is that right?

You can access them if you remove the storage compartment from your end cap.

Next question is how were they painted originally? Whole letter painted, or just the outside, or what? If you know.

The whole letter is painted with the exception of the raised edge surrounding the letter. If you look at my Avitar the "A" has been finished. I painted the letters and then sanded off the edge to remove the fresh paint. Place the sandpaper flat on a table and rub the letter back and forth across the sandpaper to remove the paint from the edge.
