Unhappy Help with emblem

After having almost completed the restoration of my 65 Overlander one of the last remaining items was to have the exterior "Overlander" emblem (near the door) replated. I removed it and sent to a place in Fort Wayne, Indiana (located the company via the web). After not hearing from the place for a month I started calling and leaving messages to no avail. I then checked with the Better Buisness Bureau in the area and bad news; the guy's a loser, they have had many complaints, and he will not even corespond with the BBB.

So-- That leaves me in desperate need of an 'Overlander' emblem. I believe that it was used on all Overlanders from 1961 thru 1965. Anyone having one of these emblems or parting out one of these old trailers, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you!

Wow, sorry to hear about the loss of your emblem. I would try the classifieds here and on EBAY. Good luck in your search.

Right you are! Those guys at Ft. Wayne are cheating, creepy, total ripoff, losers.
I speak from experience. They have absolutely no accountability.

For them to still be an "authorized airstream facility" is unacceptable.
I would never let them get near my trailer again.

Bad News is right! My plater had mine for 6 weeks and I was on a rollercoaster waiting.Since these are hard to find you might think about having a fabrication shop plasma cut one out of aluminum and round off the edges then polish. You could trace an existing one for a pattern and the cut would not be expensive. You would just have to radius the edges carefully and smooth down.
I am in Texas and know some guys in a small town that do script cutouts for ranch gates. They do some pretty detailed attractive work. The would probably need a pic and a pattern.PM me if all else fails.I will keep an eye out for one.

On my '73 Overlander, the VIN of the camper is imprinted on the emblem. If yours is the same (with the VIN), it's actually illegal to take one off of another camper and put it on yours.

I sure would like to know the name of these guys in Ft Wayne. I wouldn't want to give them any my hard earned dollars.

Just my 2 cents.

Jim

On edit: If they are an "authorized Airstream facility", maybe the mothership needs to know your story.

Sorry to hear of this. There's a great plater here in town and I highly recommend him. PM me if you're interested.

I assume you are refering to the Overlander script. The serial # plate can be ordered from Vintage Trailer Supply.

Try the company store in Jackson Center. When I was there 3 months ago they had several reproductions of the side plates. I am no expert on years and styles but they had some on display that looked real good. I seem to remember the prices were fair for the quality, I was not looking to buy so I do not remember the costs for the items.

Thanks

Thanks to all who have replied to the thread. I'll try to answer questions with one post. Yes this is the "Overlander" script and not the VIN. serial # plate. It was not the Airstream Dealer in Fort Wayne but an independant plating company. A pattern and a plasma cutter may be a viable option once a decent pattern is obtained.

I have hired a private investigator to try and aid in the recover and he has advised me that this guy is real "slippery" and has not been able to locate him yet and of couse the buisness is in an old condemed building with no one around. If anybody would care to know the name of the company(as it is now, the investigator said it has change several times) I will PM you as soon as I figure out how. ( I'm new here).

Thanks, Earl

The cursive style trailer name type is held on by self-locking push clips from the inside of the skin. The emblem itself has posts that extend in through the skin where the clips are attached. Getting one off from the outside is difficult if you want to retain the posts on the emblem. It is best to remove from the inside by accessing the inner skin.

Try contacting Camper Repair in Alabama. They have been in business since 1960 and Sonny has alot of stuff in different storage barns. Sorry don't have the number. He had some emblems for my 1978 Ambassador that came off a wrecked camper.
