Hi Guys

Can someone help me with a little question

I am currently restoring a mini cooper which I have stripped back for a bear metal re-spray. The seams which join the panels of the mini have been cut out and welded. These welded areas will need to be reshaped using filler. My question is - for these areas should I bog dirrectly to the bear metal or to the 2 pot eatch or do I need to use something else before I bogg.

Some people have told me that if I bog directly to the metal, the car will rust under the bog. These same people have also told me that you cant bog onto eatch because it wont hold..

So you can understand my confusion

Also when they welded the seams the used a very hard grey filler (looked like something like Need-IT) do you know what this stuff is called

Uhhh not sure how you found a Airstream "Camper" forum for car body work. The point of a Airstream is the bare or clear coated and rivited bodies.
I happen to know a little about body work and every filler I have ever used recomends bare metal that has been sanded with a couse abrasive to give the surface some texture so the filler will bond to it. Most fillers (as well as primers) are porus and do not seal. Once you get the filler in you reall need to get the paint on soon to create the seal. I think this is where you get the idea about the rust forming. It will form if the filler is left in a high humidity enviorment with out a layer of paint to seal it. People doing their own body work make the mistake of doing the body work and then driving around with nothing but primer and then have the rust problem.

Hehehe that was a comlete sucker hole. It didn't look deep at all and it was right in the middle of a heavily traved trail. I avoid that stuff. I HATE cleaning the truck after that and it get's into everything. That took out a couple U-joints and most of a Sautruday going through the front wheelebearings making sure they were not damaged. The brake peddle was half covered in muddy water. Thankfully I built that truck for that kind of mess. No interrior to speak of, no carpet and the inside is pretty garden hose friendly.
What I don't have a picture of but my friend has a video tape of is the recovery. My plan was to fling the door open as I was being pulled out to drain the floor out. The rear of the truck is a step up and I had one of my Jeep buddies soft doors laying in the back as well as some camping gear.
Durring all the fun while they were getting ready I was hanging out the door being a ham for the cameras. I inadvertantly leaned on the door lock. So they hook a 30ft recovery strap to a fiends truck. I'm waiting with hand on the door latch. He starts pulling and the truck starts coming out, I can't get the door open. I figure out I locked the door. Water is sloshing all over the place, Just as I reach the other side I get the door unlocked. Well half the club is standing there taking pictures laughing at me when I fling open the door and 50-60 gallons of muddy water comes out the door sending all of them running from the mud tidal wave hahahah.

That was too funny. I can only imagine and have nearly been there myself. So when that Ford finally pulled you out, did you thank him?

Wife was hungry last night at about Midnight and sent me to Krystals. On the way home I noticed a MINI for sale accross the street from the enternece to my neighborhood. I have not seen one on the road in years around here and then I see one after this post LOL.

Uhhhh it was a Ford LOL
It was a Ford ranger that rolled off the line as a 2wd 4 cyl. Now it's a 4wd with a 5.0
