Hi Howard

What is your oldest piece sprayed with Nyalic? Just trying to get an idea of longevity?

Thanks

Hi Andrew. I first used Nyalic on an old set of aluminum outriggers (offshore fishing boat) 6 years ago. They were corroded and pitted. Wire brushed and lightly sanded, then applied Nyalic. The boat still fishes the Gulf of Mexico and they look like the day we finished the project--zero recurrence of corrosion, even where pitted before. Nyalic is a polymer and is softer than acrylic or lacquer so it will scratch easier, but I see no break down from salt or UV. The oldest trailer repair is going on two years.

You are going to have this problem on all cast AL pieces---handle, door hinges, tail light castings. You can do the dealer thing, or sand the (very poor quality) clear coat off those items with 2000 wet/dry sandpaper and re-clear-coat. I use Nyalic. It's a polymer clear-coat and unaffected by UV. It is thin and flows well, so can be sprayed or brushed. Google Nyalic and but direct. For your use, to save $$, I would buy a couple of spray cans and for the brush work on the small items, like your handle, spray some into the lid, and paint from there.Attachment 209313Attachment 209314

You don't need the stripper, ect stuff. If you plan on doing just a little spray and some artist brush touch up work, the spray can will do it. Years ago we ordered pint, spray cans, and Tuff Prep/cleaning compound. Used the compound on the outriggers as they were corroded and pitted bad. But just an ever so lightly sanded and clean surface is all that's really needed for our use. Remember, it's a polymer and needs a full month to cure. It's dry to the touch in 10 min, but don't polish for at least a few weeks. Also, even though it's hardened steel against UV and salt, etc, it is softer than acrylic or lacquer. More solvents will mess it up too. Paint thinner, normal cleaners, naphtha are all OK. No lacquer thinner, acetone or even alcohol. So if you are going to reseal anything with AcrylR or ParBond, do that first so you can clean up with Alcohol--then apply your Nyalic.

Seriously, if they (Airstream) don't replace it I'd take them to small claims court just to make them spend $$$ on someone to travel out and defend their position.
More like $.66 FOB china.
