Tim,
My wife and I have a '78 Argosy, 27' and it was in need of paint. We live in Western WA ST and found a professional vehicle paint shop who did the painting. You can see the pics in the Forums registry under jjustice. Good luck
You can always strip it and polish it like mine. You can do the paint yourself with a roller and it actually turns out very nice. I have seen several in person and could not tell. The instructions how to do it are on the forums here somewhere.
I dont know how much JJ was quoted but I was quoted between $7-10K for a proffesional job. I was not willing to spend that much and have rocks hit it down the road.
Aluminum requires very special preparation of surfaces. Primer and top coatings are also specific to the aluminum. Make sure whoever does the work knows this with out you being forced to tell them. If standard auto paint is used it will look awesome when you pick it up, but after one year you will begin to see why aluminum requires a special paint. If they use aluminum paints, you will be happy for many many years. Just some friendly advice that could save you in the long run.
I was quoted from $1500 (did not trust the painter that quoted this bid) to 10K (painter wanted to take all paint off and begin again - not needed). I went with paint shop in Tumwater, WA who paints large rigs for the county, city, state. It was $2300 and that included using an epoxy prmer/sealer which is expensive. We here very pleased and would recommend him to anyone needing an AS painted.
