Exterior custom paint

I apologize if this question has been posted before. I am new to the forum! Could anyone recommend me a place that does custom painting for air streams? I have a 1975 airstream and the exterior discoloration is rather unattractive. I am looking to have it painted a fun, solid color. I live in Mississippi so I doubt there is a place around here. I am willing to drive! Many thanks

Since your trailer is an Argosy, it was painted at the factory. You will need to find someone who is experienced at painting a riveted skin. It needs to be prepped properly without damaging or defacing the rivets.
I would look for someone who paints airplanes or boats, unless you can find someone who knows what they are doing with this type of trailer.
If you want to do it yourself, there is a thread here by "boatdoc" . He painted is with a roller and it looks great.

If your desire is for a single, solid color or even a two-tone comination, you should be able to find a paint shop specializing in over-the-road trucks that could accommodate your project. Since many of the semi-trailers are constructed of aluminum they will be familiar with the necessary care to be taken in preparations, primers, and top coats.

I might suggest, that if you haven't considered the possibility would be to have your coach refinished to its original lustre. P and S Trailer Service in Helena, Ohio has specialized in polishing and Plasticoating the exteriors of Airstreams for several decades and they would definitely be able to return your coach to its near original exterior appearance. They refinished my Overlander about eight years ago and it still looks wonderful today . . . not a mirror shine, but that wasn't what I wanted . . . I wanted the original lustre that I remembered from when the coach was brought home new by friends of my family. I understand that they also do wonderful work with mirror sheen polishing as well.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

Kaylyn,

In post #466 here you can see the complete process and the end result when WILTSIE TRUCK BODIES in Aylmer, Ontario, painted my ARGOSY:

Aylmer is near London, about 3 hours west of TORONTO. If you want to pull your trailer up here I can guarantee that you won’t find better work for a lower price.

Several forum members have seen the paint job on the road and all say that it is exceptional.
