Does my 62 Safari have a clearcoat???

Hello all,
I have just recently picked up a 1962 Safari. I am brand new to Airstream trailers and have no clue as to if my trailer has a clearcoat or not? Is there an easy way to tell? I would like to start to polish it next week and need to know where to start. Do you have any recomdations or know of any good links? Thank you in advance for your help.

Take care
David

Here is a shortcut to a very good article on polishing. It has a section on how you can tell if you have clearcoat. It is from the airstream dreams web site.

Most likely not.

Clearcoat didn't become a 'standard' until the mid-60's....if it is a solid or even greyish color it's just oxidated. If it's splotchy or milky it has the clearcoat. A little toothpaste will tell you for sure...

In addition to the in depth article linked above, check out posts #2 & #7 in this thread for a quick test:

I am brand new to this site and to Airstreams. This site is amazing. I figured I would have to wait days for a reply.

Have a fantastic day
