Clear coat

Larry Today i bought a can of clear coat dup. color from my local auto. center. I wiped the spot with a paper towel sprayed it quick one coat and it looks 90% better. So after a quick extra fine wet sand tomorrow I'll hit it again.

Has anyone else seen this

Thanks

clear coat

Store bought clear coats are designed to adhere to paint, not bare metal.

Airstream's clear coat, "is" designed to adhere to bare, chemically clean aluminum.

A touch up can be done with the original clear coat

Airstream's clear coat is available in spray cans.

Sorry, but I just have to ask you if you are asking about Plasticoat or do you mean Clearcoat? I personally don't know what year A/S switched from one to the other. Maybe someone will enlighten me.

Andy, I have a 78 Argosy that I use as my summer cabin and a lot of the paint has oxidized off of the top. I have washed and used a cleaner/polish on it but what type of finish wax would help protect it and also what type of paint would you use to repaint the whole trailer?
Thanks,
Argy 78

Try a good paste wax.

Dupont Centari paint is very good. I would strip the entire trailer, as it's paint at this point, should be about dead as it can get.

If you add a couple of coats of clear auto paint to the paint job, it will last many years longer, as well as having a better shine.

Plasticote and clearcoat are one in the same. Just 2 names for the same thing.

However, the prefinished metal that Airstream is using, started with the 98 and 99 models. That new style finish cannot be applied in the field.

It worked great the spots on the side where the awning straps wore off the clear coat look great. The spots on the front and reat top (aka nose) look good. If you email me I'll send a few pictures. I have not taken time to learn how to load pictures on the site. There are a few guy on here with much more experience in this matter than me so read their post too.

I have a 2003 Classic with a couple of places where the coating has come off. They are about 2-3 inches wide and 10-12 inches long. This unit is originally from Arizona and had these spots on it when we bought her. She was hail damaged-- very few marks but none at the pealing sites. This is something I will have to address this spring because it really distracts from the look.
