Can Current Molding Inserts Be Changed To Blue?

Hi everyone...

I was wondering if the new trailers still have "inserts" in both the beltline molding and the lower side molding. I know the newer current trailers have what looks to be a chrome insert...

My questions are:

1) Is this an actual insert that is removable?

2) If the inserts ARE exhangable, are replacement moldings available in blue? If so, what size would I need for both the bottom molding as well as the Classic style beltline molding?

Please let me know if this is feasible and what would be involved in changing out the molding inserts (if in fact the newer trailers HAVE inserts).

I have replaced the blue moldings on my '85. Easy to do. Different sizes are available from AS dealers. I first ordered them from my CT dealer RV Legends where I bought our AS last year (by the way excellent people to work with!). The balance of what I needed was from Inland RV, it was on sale, check it out. Also very nice people to work with prompt service etc.

Would that apply to a 2006 trailer? Are the newest trailers' moldings able to be changed just as easy and in the same way as an '85?

Hi, "Anybody" here. The older inserts slip into a channel of some sort; And the newer ones like on my trailer are installed with two sided tape, like used on newer car's body side mouldings. So the short answer would be No.

So...even the moldings along the bottom are just a one-piece stick on molding?

Hi, two piece; The aluminum base channel, and the stick on chrome plastic moulding.

The chrome colored insert in the extrusions on the newer trailers can be peeled off. Sometimes it comes off by itself. But so far as know, it can only be replaced by the same thing if you use Airstream materials. I imagine you could replace it with a different color material and use two sided tape or glue on it. The lower moulding at the bottom of the aluminum is a little larger than the one used on the beltline.

I am confused because the original poster has a '68 trailer but is asking about the mouldings on newer ones.

Hi Gene...thanks for clearing that up.

I'm in the process of buying a new 19ft...I'm going to be towing with a blue over silver Chevy SSR and am looking for ways to add the vintage 70's blue and silver vibe to the new trailer without it looking "wrong" and was hoping to add the blue insert as an homage to the older models while also matching my truck better.

That explains it. The older inserts may be thicker, but I'm unsure of that. Cutting them to the proper width is best done on a machine that cuts things like that. Look around, you may find something from the world of plastic. We thought of blue moulding at the beltline, but it was too hard to do.

Hi, check out auto parts stores for rolls of body side mouldings. Pep Boys has some, and maybe different sizes and colors can be ordered. I wouldn't mind changing mine to blue too, if and when mine go bad. I think it would look great; Go for it.
